Jason Sobol

Senior Managing Director

Jason Sobol is a Senior Managing Director of the firm’s corporate advisory business. Mr. Sobol focuses on advising companies in the information and media sectors.

Mr. Sobol was named to the 2014 Multichannel News 40 Under 40 list and the 2013 Crain’s 40 Under 40 New York Business list.   Notable sell-side transactions include advising:  Dealertrack on its sale to Cox Automotive; on its recapitalization led by Silverlake, GIC, Spectrum and Permira; IHS on the sale of its OE&RM and Globalspec businesses to Genstar and IEEE, respectively; Tranzact on its sale to CD&R; SambaSafety on its sale to ABRY Partners; ShopperTrak on its sale to Tyco; iParadigms on its sale to Insight Venture Partners; TravelClick on its sale to Thoma Bravo; R.L. Polk & Co. on its sale to IHS; Green Street Advisors on its sale to Golden Gate Capital; McGraw-Hill Financial on its sale of McGraw Hill Construction to Symphony Technology Group; Schoolwires on its sale to Blackboard; Service Repair Solutions on its sale to Welsh Carson; McGraw Hill Education on its sale to Apollo; LoopNet on its sale to CoStar; Schoolnet on its sale to Pearson; on its sale to Walt Disney Company; on its sale to AOL; RiskMetrics on its sale to MSCI; Business Monitor International on its sale to Fitch Ratings; Asset International on its sale to Genstar Capital; and BNA on its sale to Bloomberg, among others.  Notable buy-side transactions include advising:  Gartner on its acquisition of CEB; S&P Global on its acquisition of SNL Financial; Dealertrack on its acquisitions of, Incadea and eCarList; Corelogic on its acquisitions of FNC, MSB & Dataquick; Wolters Kluwer on its acquisition of UpToDate; Apax Partners on its acquisition of Thomson Learning and Houghton Mifflin Higher Education; Hearst Corporation on its minority investment in Fitch Group; and Dow Jones & Company on its acquisition of Factiva. Mr. Sobol has also advised on a broad range of IPOs, spin-offs, capital raises and restructurings.

Prior to joining Evercore in 2004, Mr. Sobol was Vice President of Acquisitions for the Davis Companies, the holding company for Marvin Davis-controlled entities, focusing on private equity and leveraged buyout opportunities primarily in media and entertainment. Mr. Sobol was also a Principal of the Davis family’s venture fund, Stone Canyon Venture Partners. Prior to Davis Companies, Mr. Sobol was Senior Director of Business Development for, which was acquired by Yahoo!, and prior to that, a member of the Mergers & Acquisitions group of Goldman Sachs & Co.

Mr. Sobol received a B.A. in Economics, with honors, from Harvard University.
