Sean E. Murphy is a Senior Advisor of the firm’s corporate advisory business focused on advising clients in the health care industry.
Sean Murphy joins Evercore with over thirty years of operations and business development experience. Mr. Murphy was most recently a Corporate Vice President and Head of Business Development and Mergers and Acquisitions at Abbott Laboratories. His career at Abbott includes running several businesses, such as the vascular business after the acquisition of Perclose, and leading Abbott’s external development effort for ten years. With Mr. Murphy as head of Abbott’s Business Development team, Abbott was named ‘Dealmaker of the Year’ in Healthcare, by The Deal magazine, in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Mr. Murphy led over $30 billion in transactions across the pharmaceutical, medical technology, diagnostics, and nutrition markets, including the more recent acquisitions of Solvay Pharma, American Medical Optics, and Guidant’s vascular business. Further transactions included the acqisition and integration of: Kos Pharmaceuticals, Perclose, Visiogen, Evalve, MedNova, Biocompatibles Vascular Business, Jomed, Spinal Concepts, SpineNext, Therasense, Vysis, IStat, IBES Bioscience, Starlims, Zone, and EAS, as well as several spin-offs, divestitures, joint ventures, and entry into emerging markets.
Mr. Murphy has an M.S. in Finance from the University of Illinois, a B.B.A in Business from Western Illinois University, and is a C.P.A. Mr. Murphy is a current Board Member for Nordion.
